FOCUS FESTIVAL 2020: Pioneering Women Composers of the 20th Century

The Focus festival, now in its 36th year, celebrates groundbreaking women composers who paved the way for generations to comee. Co-curated by founding director Joel Sachs and Cuban-American composer-conductor Odaline de la Martinez, the festival includes six free concerts--with the New Juilliard Ensemble (NJE) conducted by Joel Sachs, the Juilliard Orchestra conducted by Anne Manson, chamber ensembles, and soloists--and a special tribute to Sofia Gubaidulina, Thea Musgrave, Betsy Jolas, and Jacqueline Fontyn, traiblazers who are still composing. The Juilliard Orchestra open the final concert with Thea Musgrave’s Rainbow.
