Aldeburgh Fesitval: Four Madrigals

  • Orford Church, Suffolk, UK (map)

Aldeburgh Voices bring a programme of choral music inspired by the madrigal tradition to this year’s Aldeburgh Festival. Tippett’s experience as a conductor and his love for Tudor composers produced miniatures of delicate textures and vivid word-painting. But his Spirituals contain a world of communal suffering and hope that is barely contained by their deceptively simple refrains. Thea Musgrave’s Four Madrigals joins a vibrant British programme of Britten, Tippett, Weir and others.
