Music for Horn and Piano
(1967)
Duration: 9'

World Premiere:  May 1967, Zagreb Festival of Contemporary Music
Barry Tuckwell, horn
Margaret Kitchin, piano

Publisher:  Chester Music Ltd

Composer's Note:

Music for Horn and Piano was written early in 1967 for Barry Tuckwell and Margaret Kitchin who gave the first performance at the Zagreb Festival of Contemporary Music in May 1967. It is one of a series of works (including the Chamber Concerto No. 2) in which a method of writing has been evolved giving the players a certain degree of rhythmical freedom. Passages of great rhythmic complexity thus become possible using relatively simple means. The work is short and dramatic. There are several strongly contrasted interlinking sections, unified by a chordal idea heard at the outset.
