Elegy
(1960)
Duration: 8 minutes
for viola and cello

World Premiere: 19 May 1970, University of California at Santa Barbara
Peter Mark, viola, and Geoffrey Rutkowski, cello

Publisher:  Chester Music Ltd

Composer Note:

The Elegy was written in April 1970 when the composer was a guest professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara. The work grew from one simple idea, the rather sombre chord heard at the outset. This soon leads to much more dramatic and virtuosic music mostly written in a freer type of notation to encourage the performers to play in a very soloistic manner.
