Composer's Note:

Immediately North of the busy Los Angeles airport, which serves a gigantic city, right beside the vast Pacific Ocean, there is a small, peaceful lagoon. Every day egrets fly in and land on its sunlit banks in a whirl of white plumage. This poetic image is used to give an opportunity for some important techniques for string instruments.
